Images
LEAF manages images in two ways: as repository items and as 'external objects'. The difference lies in how the user wants to manage images. If you want to use an image once (e.g. in one block on a basic page, but never again) then use the image upload feature on the navbar in the text editor in a block on a simple page. If you want to use an image as part of a collection, in various ways throughout a project, and attach metadata to the image object, then it is best practice to manage the image as a repository item. The instructions outlined here are related to images as repository items.
Creating an Image Object
From ‘Nodes’ link on project nav, choose 'Add New Content' In the new screen, choose 'Group node (Repository Item)' In the new screen, add the following information (note that you can complete or correct the metadata fields after the image object has been created):
- Title
- Model > Image
- Resource Type > Image
- Relationships (if the image will be organized in a collection, type the first few letters of the collection name into the box and choose the correct collection).
- Title details (optional -- use this field if there is a longer or more complex title for the image)
- Contributor (if you know the name of the photographer, painter, etc.)
- Form/Medium/Genre (can only be added from existing taxonomic terms, and the user must know what they are)
- Other information can be added now or later or not at all, depending on the degree of project-wide metadata that is required.
- Click 'Save'.
The Repository Item will be created.
Adding Image Media
As with other repository item formats (e.g. encoded texts) the image itself needs to be associated with the repository item. Once the item is created and saved, you should see an empty screen with three tabs: View, About, and Edit Content.
- Click the 'About' tab.
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the Edit button next to 'Associated Media’
In the new screen, choose 'Add Media'
- Click on 'Image'
- Upload file using 'Choose File' button
- Check 'Original File' and 'Thumbnail Image' tick boxes.
- Scroll to the bottom and click 'Save'
You should now be back in the 'About' screen
Fill in your workflow record as determined by the Project and click 'Save'.
When all work is completed, click 'Save' at the bottom of the screen. You should now be back in 'About' mode. Click on 'View' to see the image.
Using Images
If the image is part of a collection, the image will be viewable through that collection.
You can also add a repository item image to any basic page across the project: in a block, choose the media gallery icon from the Tiny MCE navigation bar. Search for the image by title or node ID.
Once you have placed the image in a block on a page you can add a caption to the image -- this caption will only appear in the page block (it will not carry over to other uses of the image across the project.)
